day three
mele kalikimaka – bing crosby
you have probably already realized that christmas cannot be christmas for me without two things: 1) jesus; 2) bing crosby. i just grew up thinking that bing crosby was the only one who sang christmas songs and that merle haggard was the only guy they played on the radio. my dad was, and still is, very passionate about his favorite musicians and they definitely formed a little of my music preferences today.
this song takes me back to make trips in the truck christmas shopping for my mom. meaning dad would drop me off at the mall with his credit card and say “get your mother something nice from me” and leave me to it. but i will always remember him singing this and dancing while he drove. and it makes me want to go to hawaii for christmas one year!
