Sometimes I just don’t know what to write about on this here blog. It is easy to get caught up in the “create excellent content” trap and you feel like everything you post has to be perfect and curated and amazing. Well, I’m just here today to tell you that it just ain’t happening this week. I’ve been working on writing up a few posts about my miscarriage and pregnancy loss experience and truth be told, it really takes it out of me. So I just thought I’d share what I’m currently…. whatever. Loving, obsessed with, drinking, diffusing, etc.
Currently I’m…
Obsessed with:
The Enneagram. And, as a SEVEN on the Enneagram, this is to be expected. I’m going through the Enneagram Journey class at my church and I’m sooooo utterly fascinated by the entire thing. I’m working on a more extensive blog post about this but I thought I’d just hit the highlights for you! The Enneagram is an ancient (like 2000+ years old) personality typing program. However, unlike others out there (like DISC and Meyers-Briggs) it doesn’t just stop at telling you about your personality. It goes in to how you can use what you know about yourself and other people in order to relate better with others in any situation and understand their view on the world. It also is about observing yourself, your actions, and your behaviors without judgment, and creating space for the Holy Spirit to come in and do some work on you. I believe if everyone on the planet went through this journey, learned their type, and put in to practice some of the principles I’ll be learning, we might actually be able to achieve world peace. Yep. I said it. Stay tuned for more!
Nomming On:
Two meals from Trader Joe’s that I just literally cannot get enough of these days! First is the Chimichurri Rice with Chicken Andouille Sausage. It is spicy, creamy, and is a great “almost fall but still hot outside” meal. We have been eating it once a week lately! It is almost like a really quick jambalaya.
Next is the Party Size Mini Meatballs with Korean BBQ Sauce. I just sauteed the meatballs really quick in a skillet and then poured the Korean bbq sauce over and added a small can of diced pineapple. I served it with jasmine rice that I cooked in half chicken stock/half coconut milk. We ate it at church on Sunday night during Financial Peace University and everyone was asking us what it was!
Sipping Regularly:
Good ol’ unsweet iced tea. My best friend Liz switched me over from sweet tea to unsweet tea years ago and I’ve never looked back! I love the bitter, stout flavor of tea and really love that I can basically drink as much as I want since it has zero calories or sugar. And the darker and stronger the better!
(PS: My favorite way to get it is at Starbucks: A trenta (which is the XL) unsweetened black iced tea with no water! So strong and delish!)
Watching after bedtime:
When we aren’t watching The Office (again…) Chris and I are loving two TV shows: Ozark and Arrow. Ozark stars Jason Bateman (one of my absolute FAVES) and he plays a guy who gets involved with some pretty scary people from Mexico as a money launderer. It is intense, a little funny sometimes (if you like dry, Jason Bateman humor), and totally binge-worthy! Warning – save this one for after the kids go to bed. It is definitely rated R.
Arrow is a show about a super hero vigilante named, you guessed it, Arrow. It stars Stephen Amell who is at the very least, eeeeeasy on the eyes, as a rich party boy who ends up deserted on an island after his private charter ship capsizes in the ocean. He returns home five years later to avenge his father’s death as Arrow. My favorite thing about it is the concurrent story line – it constantly switches back and forth between “present day” and “island time”, with a theme that threads through his experiences happening in both. It is a great, action packed show and while the acting is not amazing, the characters are lovable enough to stick with it.
Diffusing on repeat:
Christmas Spirit + Citrus Fresh. It smells like one of those dried orange wreaths you get during the holidays and I am here for it.
Listening to while I work:
I’m an avid fan of podcasts, and I’ve recently gotten sucked in to The Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. He interviews celebrities, and it is a peek behind the curtain so to speak into the normal, every day lives of the fabulous and famous. He recently interviewed Jason Bateman too, which I have listened to three times. No shame.
Crushing On:
Color Street nail polish strips. One of my favorite bloggers (Layla from The Lettered Cottage) shared about these on her Instagram stories a couple of weeks ago and I had to try them. They’re actual nail polish that has been painted out into a strip that you peel off the backing, stick to your nail, and press down. And voila – painted nails. I tried them for the first time yesterday and had fully polished nails in like, 15 minutes, with no drying time. I can tell they will take a little practice to perfect but so far, I’m loving them!
Hurting so good from:
Airrosti. If you’ve been following me on Instagram for a hot second, you’ve heard me talk about this already. But seriously, it has been an amazing discovery for me! I injured my back twice a couple of weeks ago and after the second time, nothing was touching the pain. A friend of mine recommended Airrosti with the warning that it hurt like crazy but was totally worth it. She could not have said it better. It is a soft tissue and fascia manipulation (think, the worst deep tissue massage ever) that works out the kinks in your muscles and brings them back to their long, lean, kink-free original state. It is great for sports injuries or for people who don’t just want to treat every injury with pain medicine or surgery. (PS, a more extensive blog post is coming on this soon)!
