Celebrate the holidays this year with intention!! I’m bringing you 12 Mindful Days of Christmas – a series all about celebrating the holiday without buying a bunch of gifts for others! You can check out all the other days in the series here!
Welcome back to the 12 Mindful Days of Christmas series! I’m excited to be sharing these fun ways to celebrate the holidays with your friends and family without overspending and getting stressed out!
Day one was all about having a swap meet – a fun and free way to trade what you have and don’t want anymore (whether it is Christmas decorations, clothing, gifts, toys, anything!) with your friends for things they have and don’t want anymore!
Day two we spent cuddled on the couch for family movie night! Bust out the popcorn, snacks, fuzzy blankets, and cozy pajamas friends and enjoy a night in with your favorite family Christmas movie!
Day three we got competitive and busted out some of our favorite family board games and activities!
If you’re like me, today might put you way outside of your comfort zone but I’m going to challenge you to do it anyways because I think you’ll be surprised at how much of a blessing it can be to you!
12 Mindful Days of Christmas
The older I get, the more I realize how much the elderly people in our communities have to offer us. They grew up in a completely different time and never had to battle some of the fights that we have today (like against social media wars, political battles, and mass violence) but they still have amazing experiences that we can definitely learn from.
You don’t have to do or say anything fancy – in most cases all you have to do is show up and find someone to sit with! Bring a deck of cards or a checkerboard and just be ready to sit for a while and listen.
The elderly in our lives just want to connect with people and share their stories. While I’m not the best example of this, I think that just showing up and hanging out means the world to them. So I’m opening this up to you guys – please share in the comments below ways that you engage with the elderly in your community?
