Celebrate the holidays this year with intention!! I’m bringing you 12 Mindful Days of Christmas – a series all about celebrating the holiday without buying a bunch of gifts for others! You can check out all the other days in the series here!
Welcome back to the 12 Mindful Days of Christmas series! I’m excited to be sharing these fun ways to celebrate the holidays with your friends and family without overspending and getting stressed out!
Day one was all about having a swap meet – a fun and free way to trade what you have and don’t want anymore (whether it is Christmas decorations, clothing, gifts, toys, anything!) with your friends for things they have and don’t want anymore!
Day two we spent cuddled on the couch for family movie night! Bust out the popcorn, snacks, fuzzy blankets, and cozy pajamas friends and enjoy a night in with your favorite family Christmas movie!
Day three we got competitive and busted out some of our favorite family board games and activities!
Day four was all about visiting loved ones that are in assisted living or nursing homes. Or, just visiting those places to visit with the residents – even if you’re not related to them!
Day five we talked about hosting a cookie swap for all your friends!
Day six was for all the at home and drive through chefs out there who can deliver a meal to a friend or family member!
Day seven focuses on breaking out an Advent calendar to count down the days until Christmas!
Day eight I encouraged you to rethink the idea of family dinner during the holidays!
Day nine I sent you out in search of your area’s best Christmas lights! Brew some hot chocolate and jump in the care for a sweet, sparkling night!
Day ten we grabbed our rakes and gloves and helped out with yard work!
Day eleven we got warm and cozy and headed to a local Christmas parade!
For Day TWELVE (!!!) I’m sending you out to commit the best acts – random acts of kindness!
12 Mindful Days of Christmas
Let’s start with this: I have had SO much fun with this series and sharing these ideas with you! The feedback has honestly been amazing and I can’t even tell you how much it means to me that you guys are excited about finding more meaning in the holidays than giving tons of gifts!! So thank you, thank you, thank you for joining me for this mini-journey! I’m kind of sad that is is over!
A random act of kindness is just that – an act that you perform that is totally random and the recipient of the gesture has no idea who or where it came from. Think – buying and taping a few free movie codes to a RedBox, leaving a $5 in the change dispenser of a coke machine, mowing or raking a neighbor’s lawn, leaving cookies for a friend, etc. It can be anything you can think of that would bring a smile to someone’s face!
I can remember when Random Acts of Kindness became a “thing” and all the bloggers that I followed started doing them and talking about them. (I’m well aware that they had probably ALWAYS done them, but blogging just gave them a bigger platform on which to share them) One blogger, who I consider to be one of the OG bloggers, is Mique from Thirty Handmade Days. She is one of the first places I ever remember seeing the Random Acts of Kindness happen, so I thought it only supremely appropriate to share a couple of her most popular holiday RAOK (random acts of kindness) posts with you! (Plus her reason and the story behind how she got started doing it is incredible. Read it here!)
Check out her blog for these two holiday random acts of kindness posts for more inspiration!
