Unless you are a fashionista working in the business, it’s likely that most of your fashion choices happen when mine do – early in the morning when your coffee is still only just filtering through. This is why it is so important that for those of us who are not highly paid models, a capsule wardrobe should be in place to make life a whole lot easier.
Creating a wardrobe on a budget doesn’t have to be a challenge. It is simply a case of finding a bunch of items that you can mix and match easily so that whatever you pull out in the semi-darkness, you can’t go far wrong.
But how can you take your outfit up a notch? Well, my friend, this is where accessories really come into their own.
Three Accessories You Should Never Go Without
Here are the three accessories that I always try to add at least one of to every outfit!
Jewelry
You can change the feel of any outfit with the simple addition of a bit of jewelry. Whether you prefer some classic diamond earrings, a funky statement necklace or you go for personalized jewelry (learn more), there is a lot you can do just by playing around with different combinations.
This year’s jewelry fashion is big and bold with huge earrings, chunky necklaces and an infusion of quirkiness that can’t quite be described. What you should take from this is that you can pretty much accessorize your jewelry however you like as long as you are making a statement of sorts – just what you need to hear in the early hours of the morning!
Sunglasses
Combining practicality with fashion, sunglasses are by far the easiest way to accessorize and have fun with your outfit. This year, there are a few different trends on offer from the micro cat eye to the huge ‘70s bifocal so you have lots of freedom in your choice! And since bright colors are everywhere, you can easily pick out a range so that you can mix and match according to your wardrobe selections.
The main challenge with sunglasses is finding a pair you can wear rather than give the impression that your sunglasses are wearing you. Essentially, you need to find the glasses that will fit your face shape. While Anna Wintour may be able to get away with huge sunglasses, unless you are a celebrity, you should probably stick to something a little less statement.
Scarves
Scarves are absolutely the best way to add a shot of color to an outfit without having to commit to wearing it all day. While long flowing silk scarves are ideal for adding a little glamor to an outfit in the office, chunky knits and what are essentially blankets are ideal for staying warm through the winter months.
The real question with a scarf is how to tie it. There are a few different options and each one brings something slightly different to your outfit. As you practice different knots, you’ll get used to the ones that suit you and it should become second nature.
Accessorizing is about having fun and bringing a new life to an otherwise boring outfit. Be free with color choices and show off your fashion taste.
