Don’t stress if you’re strapped for cash this year! This list of free things to do on Valentine’s day has you covered!
I feel like it is not a secret around here that Chris and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s day the way most other people do! We don’t like to spend the extra money (yep, we’re cheap like that) and I don’t need a special day to show or be shown any extravagant amount of love. Homeboy better be showing me that kind of love on the daily #amiright?
But for those of you who do look forward to celebrating Valentine’s day with your loved one but the budget is already stretched thin, here are eight absolutely free things you can do for Valentine’s day!
Free Things to do on Valentine’s Day
1. Cook dinner together.
Pull out a recipe that neither of you have ever tried or challenge yourself to come up with something delicious from what you have in the freezer, pantry, and fridge! Get creative and make sure there are lots of opportunity to taste test things (wink, wink).
2. Have a picnic and people watch.
Make a couple of sandwiches, grab a bottle of wine, and head to the park (or the mall, or Walmart, wherever you prefer to do your people-watching)! I love watching how other people go through life – I find it so interesting!
3. Volunteer together at a charity.
Give your time together at a soup kitchen for the night to help feed those who find themselves in a homeless situation or volunteer at the local nursing home to spend time with the elderly there who just want some company.
4. Leave a sweet note on the mirror.
Sappiness is not my area of expertise, but the occasional note on the mirror trick is a sweet gesture! Name five things you love about them or make it steamy, your choice!
5. Go down memory lane.
Scroll back a few years into your Facebook timeline and reminisce about how you met, that disastrous date, that amazing vacation, or how much sleep you got before you had kids.
6. Build a fort and watch a movie.
My husband is a fort connoisseur and can build one out of a length of rope and a sheet. It is quite impressive! Get nostalgic and watch a cult classic under a blanket together – clothing optional!
7. Go to bed early.
Okay but now you’re speaking my love language. Put the kids to bed early (or send them to Grandma’s if you can) and go to bed at six. Catch up on lost sleep or don’t – up to you!
8. Go for a long drive and hold hands.
One thing my husband always likes to do is drive. He doesn’t have to have a destination – just a drive anywhere would do! Jump in the car, pull out your CD case if you still have it (lol the 90s), and jam out to your faves while you’re cruising! Bonus points if you make a mix tape!
What are some of your favorite ways to celebrate on Valentine’s Day? Whatever you decide to do, just show a little extra love today!
