Now that summer is in full swing, let’s talk about my favorite swim coverups! I’m sharing four that I’m loving right now for curvy gals!
If having a flattering, comfortable, and trustworthy swimsuit is important for us curvy gals, then having a swim coverup that meets the same standards is important too! What is the point in searching for the perfect swimsuit if you’re just going to cover it up with a muumuu that undoes all the beautiful work that your swimsuit is doing?
So I went on the hunt last week for a great coverup that is also flattering, comfortable, and trustworthy that you can wear from the hotel to the beach, the pool to the car, or the lounge chair to the bar.
My Favorite Swim Coverups
When it comes to a swim coverup, here is what I’m looking for:
(1) I want some waist definition. I don’t want to wear something that makes me look frumpy or like I’m wearing a tent, especially when I have on a bathing suit underneath that is showing off all my curves.
(2) While I do want to highlight my curves a bit, I also want to feel appropriately covered when I’m wearing it. So some fabric coverage is necessary – I want to feel somewhere between “fully dressed” and “able to swim at a moment’s notice”, if that makes any sense.
(3) I don’t want it to look like I’ve peed myself. You know what I mean – some fabrics and color show wet spots more than others and I don’t want it to look like I didn’t make it to the bathroom in time because my crotch is wet but the rest of the cover up is dry.
(4) I want to be able to wear it “out” if needed – like a beachside restaurant or a casual bar – without feeling like I’m still just in my swimming pool attire.
So something that looks like an outfit, but isn’t and actual outfit, that doesn’t show the dreaded pee crotch, but also shows off my curves, without showing off too much. I mean… that isn’t asking too much is it??
Well – here is what I found friends!
This terry cloth romper from Old Navy is my all around favorite! I was telling Chris a few weeks ago that I really wanted a terry cloth romper to wear as a cover up LIKE I DID AS A KID and lo’ and behold, I found one! I searched high and low, but never thought to check the Old Navy website, but I’m so glad I did! This one is the perfect weight, and the fabric is dark enough to not show dark wet spots. I also feel like I could for sure go from the house to the pool to Little Caesar’s pizza for dinner without ever feeling like I needed to change clothes as well.
Fit tips: true to size, and I would size down if you’re in between. I am wearing in a Large. They also have other colors available here.
If rompers are not your thing, this is a great second option for you! It is also from Old Navy and has a cute twist back halter detail to it! It is a nice lightweight fabric and the stripes camouflage the dark, wet spots nicely. This would be great for a family vacation or a day spent at Schlitterbahn!
Fit tip: runs a tiny bit small – I am wearing a Large. I would size up if you’re in between.
If you’re wondering (like I was) what to wear with a swimsuit that has a lot of details, like ruffles, around the top, I suggest this pretty sarong! It is actually pretty long (it is the medium length) so you could wear it longer than I have it here or scrunch it up and wear it shorter as well. It covers your bottom while leaving the pretty details of this swimsuit showing! It comes in a ton of pretty colors too!
Fit tip: Available in ONE SIZE – I am wearing the Medium Length.
If you’re headed on an adults only vacation this summer, first of all take me with you, and second of all take this pretty Target Kona Sol coverup with you too! I love the print on the fabric and it pairs perfectly with my basic black swimsuit (the one I repeatedly reach for!). The cleavage is a bit much for me for family functions, but if it were just Chris and I, I would feel great wearing this from the pool to the hotel bar! (One day Chris, one day…)
Fit tip: fits perfectly true to size! I am wearing in a size L
Lastly is this pretty purple one! What I love about this one is that even though it is technically a swim cover up, you could totally rock it on its own as a dress or with leggings as a tunic! The fabric is so soft and I feel like this would be great in a coastal town to wear out souvenir shopping with a cute straw hat and bag and some white slides. Very chic but very modest and flattering as well!
Fit tip: Size down if you’re in between. I am wearing in a size L and have plenty of room.
Which one is your favorite? Let me know if you grab one and send me pic wearing it (that sounds creepy… now that I think about it) but seriously I would love to see and share it!

Love the round up! I’m not sure why, but I always have a hard time with this one! I haven’t found a cover up I love, so I need to check these out!
