The school year is here and with it comes so many decisions this year! I’m going to take a few off your plate today with a few lunch hacks for distance learning! Here are my tips for making lunch a stress-free event in your house this year!
When it comes to school this year, I’m not going to lie – I am suffering from major decision fatigue. There have been so many unknowns this year and if I’m being honest, I’m glad that school will be bringing a touch of normalcy back to our routine and give Jett something to do and look forward to every day!
Lunch is almost always a big discussion, whether we are packing a lunch, buying lunch, or hoping to get lucky and have lunch brought to us. We have a hard time agreeing on what goes in the lunch box – Jett would prefer a box of cheese crackers and fruit gummies every day if I would let him. We are working on increasing his protein and learning to eat fruit, and I’m so excited that LALA® Yogurt Smoothies are helping me out in both of these departments!
LALA® Yogurt Smoothies are made with real fruit and seriously, any way I can get Jett to eat fruit is a win in my book. They also have 5g of protein which makes mama happy! It is the perfect dessert for a school lunch that I can really feel good about Jett having. They just rolled out their new packaging – if you’re a sucker for packaging like me then you’ll love the new look!
You can grab it in a four pack in several flavors like Strawberry, Pina Colada, Mango, or Pecan Cereal, which is made with real pecans. They also have a ten-pack if that fits your family best in Strawberry and Mango.
Be sure to check your mailbox for that ValPak envelope to get $2.50 off your favorite LALA® Yogurt Smoothies at HEB!
Lunch Hacks for Distance Learning
Now let’s talk about a couple of hacks that will help make distance learning a little easier in your home cafeteria!
1. Premade lunches are the way to go!
Whether you’re packaging up leftovers, stacking up snack packs, or pre-making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, having lunches made beforehand so they are ready to grab as soon as lunch time hits will seriously save your day! Have a lunch station set up in your fridge with sandwiches, fruit cups, cheese sticks, and LALA® Yogurt Smoothies. Keep a basket of snack size chips, granola bars, and next to the fridge along with a package of napkins and your favorite kid-friendly plates so that even the youngest learners can make their own lunch!
2. Use divided plates for portion control!
We love divided plates! They make it really easy for Jett to make his own plate because we have learned what goes where and can portion out protein, veggies, fruit, and snacks easily! I will keep our plates in a basket by the fridge so Jett can build a lunch and each division in the plate has an assigned food. This will hopefully help with making sure we have a large serving of some kind of fruit and a smaller serving of desserts and snacks. Here’s hoping! #fingerscrossed
3. Make it filling!
Seriously – if I hear “can I have a snack” one more time this year… well I will get a snack, but I think you other moms can definitely relate. We have been doing a much better job of making sure that Jett’s lunches are full of protein and fiber so that he stays full longer and isn’t foraging for a snack 15 minutes after lunch is over. I keep reminding him that once school starts he will need to use his school stomach, not his summer at home stomach when deciding if he is actually hungry ha! That is one of the main reasons I love LALA® Yogurt Smoothies – that extra five grams of protein really does help!
