I’ve been dreaming of a home office makeover since we moved into our current home! Here are some of the dreams and inspiration I have for my home office space!
Since the moment we moved in to our current house and I finally claimed my own, personal office space, I’ve been dying to give it some kind of makeover! Today I’m just jotting down a few plans, ideas, and dreams I have for the space so that I have them filed away somewhere. Are you like me, in that once you seem to get ideas out of your head and onto something permanent, they seem to happen faster? That is what I’m hoping for. So without further ado, here are my home office makeover plans!
For starters, let’s just get out of the way that this is not my current office situation. If that were the case, I would be done, because it is BEAUTIFUL! This is the office of Heather from The Decor Fix, and I’ve had this image saved for months as an inspiration point!
What I love about it most are the clean lines of her furniture, the pops of color on the open shelving, and the large, open space of desk that she has to spread out. Sigh. It makes me want to sit and work there ALL DAY LONG.
Home Office Makeover Plans
This is where I currently work, literally right this very second, as I popped up and took these photos for the post while I was writing it!
It is the opposite of fancy and professional looking – but it is totally functional. I have a place to sit and get my work done, which I’m thankful for. For the past few years, I’ve either shared my office with the kitchen or the living room, so I’m grateful that I have my own space. But I think it is ready for an upgrade – what do you think?
Here is the view from the other angle, which showcases my favorite part about the room – these three incredible windows that let in SO MUCH LIGHT. They’re amazing.
This is my desk, which you can tell has been around for a while. In every new house we have lived in, I’ve had a new desk, and all of them have been hand-me-downs. While I am FOREVER thankful for the people who generously shared their furniture with us, I am just 100% ready for this to be my own space. I don’t feel creative or inspired when I walk in here – in fact some days it makes me downright sad.
Here’s what is currently staying or going:
- The drying rack comes and goes as needed, but the fan stays year round. It does get rather warm here in the summers, so I keep that fan in here just in case. (I also use it regularly to line dry my clothes!)
- The trampoline will be gone soon, since Jett will be getting a new trampoline for his birthday that lives outside (shhhhh don’t tell him!)
- I love my Ikea chair in the corner – it belonged to my mom and Jett likes to sit there and read in the early mornings while I work. It will likely be moving to a different spot in the room, but it stays.
- The white set of drawers can stay or go – depending on what the final design of the room ends up being. I also have the option of using the dresser we painted for Jett’s room and switching them out, but I would like to check with Jett before doing that since it is sort of “his”.
- The hanging light fixture stays for right now, since we are renting it and I don’t want to mess with it. It is downright hideous but I rarely ever use it so I can deal with it being out of sight.
Here is the turquoise dresser I’m talking about. Wouldn’t this be a fun pop of color in this boring, drab room?
Some of my dreams for the space:
The office of my dreams has white walls, with a big traditional desk in the middle of the floor, floating on a bright, colorful rug. It also has brass accents, lots of hidden storage, and a cute desklamp that I can turn on in the early mornings for a little extra light.

All of this together feels very warm, inviting, and like a place that I would look forward to working in every day!
Now, here is where I need your help!! I also need a new office chair! I currently use one of the chairs from our dining room table, which really needs to be rectified!! Which of these chairs do you think will go best?
