If you’re like me, you woke up this morning with a new and unexpected responsibility in your life: being a homeschool mom. If you’re like me, this terrifies you. If you’re like me, the only thing that will save your last shred of sanity in these times is a schedule, so that is what I have for you today!
You’ve all probably seen the colorful schedule that Jessica McHale Photography shared – it went viral quickly after many school closures were announced. I printed it out and hung it on the fridge and by 8:04 AM the first day, I could already tell that while it was fantastic, it just wasn’t going to do the trick here. For starters, hers doesn’t start until 9AM and my early riser son has already had two hours of the day to fill by then.
So I set out to create a new one, and also borrowed an idea from my friend Jessi who shared her daily schedule as well – but it had a column for what the kids were responsible for and what Mom was responsible for. I loved that idea because it showed Jett that I had work to do too and just like at school, I couldn’t do everything with him.
PS: So many times in the last few days I’ve said “You don’t get to do that at school, right? You can’t do it here either.” It has helped solve a few problems like whether or not we can play with cars while we are eating lunch or asking me to sit in the bathroom with him while he goes.
Anyways – here is the final result. A day planned out from 7AM through 8PM, that was approved by Jett (he helped me decide on things) that includes creative play, academic work, screen-free time, outdoor play, chores, food, and quiet time. And at the time this was published, it is looking like schools will not be back in session until the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year (yeah, like this August) so this daily routine will be a lifesaver for me!
If you think this will be helpful, I created a version you can edit as needed and print out for your home!
